President's Update -1st September 2022

Good Evening SMRA Families,

I am very happy to welcome you all to the 2022 - 2023 St Marys ringette season!

It is hard to believe summer is coming to a close, kids going back to school and we will be stepping back onto the ice in the next few weeks. This email contains a lot of important information, so take your time going over it and reach out if you have any questions.

We would also like to welcome Teri Fluttert as Sponsorship and Scott Schmidt as WRRL REP as to Executive. We are still looking for a Promotions Director, please contact me if you are interested. 

First Practice Times

The SMRA board is continuing to get the 2022 - 2023 season shaped up and ready to go. The Rock Rink will be ready the first week after the break and gives us enough time to conclude U12A and U16A tryouts. Registration hasn’t closed yet and if you know of new or seasoned players who haven’t yet registered, please encourage them to do so. We are also actively seeking more coaching staff. With all that in mind, we are offering two weeks of practices organized by age division. These sessions will end with a session run by PEAK for all those UFUN3-U19. UFUN1 and UFUN2 will get their turn with the PEAK ladies later in the season. 

Thank you to those who have already volunteered to run the practices sessions. The Player Coach Development Committee hopes to have finalised teams by September 27, well ahead of the season officially starting mid-October. Once teams are made, the full practice schedule until the holiday break will be released with game dates and times to follow. Volunteers

Volunteers will be on the ice to run the first 2 weeks of skills and drills. We still have teams without coaches, please contact myself or Peter if you are interested in coaching. SMRA will cover the cost of any individuals who complete their coaching qualifications and coach within the association during the 2022 - 2023 season. 

Bond

The SMRA Volunteer Bond is back! The postdated cheque (March 31, 2023), made out to St Marys Ringette, for $250.00 is to ensure that all jerseys are returned in good condition and that we have enough volunteers to run our tournament Friday, December 9-Sunday, December 11.  Elmira Chicken sales and our Bingos are other ways to work off your bond. More details will be shared with Managers and Tournament Reps at the Bench Staff meeting. If you have any questions before that, please reach out to Sonya Henderson at fundraising@stmarysringette.ca

Lottery

The SMRA annual lottery draw will continue this year - the booklets will be coming out in November at some point. The books are $100.00. Either place your name on all the tickets to increase your chance to win or sell the tickets to recoup the money.  We will be looking for this payment before November 1^st. Payments can be sent to treasurer@stmarysringette.ca . Please contact Sonya at fundraising@stmarysringette.ca or Erin at treasurer@stmarysringette.ca

Tournament

SMRA is excited to announce that we will be hosting our Annual St Marys Ringette Tournament from December 9 - 11. This is a very big undertaking for the association and we are looking for all hands on deck. More information will be coming out in the next months regarding what this will all look like. If you are interested in being on the Tournament Committee / Food Committee please reach out to me at president@stmarysringette.ca
